These pieces of petrified wood are tumbled. Most of them are a little bigger than a quarter. (Quarter placed at bottom of stones in photo.) They vary in color from tan-brown to a maroon-red color. Their color depends on the type of tree that they were originally and what the conditions were when they petrified. The petrification process occurs naturally in nature over a very long time. Due to certain conditions in nature, trees can petrify over a long period of time instead of rotting. These stones are actually pieces of trees from the time of the dinosaurs! This is a great seller for kids due to it being a piece of history. -- This is one interesting piece of nature!
